Tuscan bread sandwiches and vintage shopping in the fashion capital of Italy

I still remember exiting the metro station for the first time when we got to Milan.

We hauled our suitcases up the stairs at the Duomo stop. About halfway up the stairs, I could see the Duomo. It was beautiful.

Dining in Milan was a pleasant experience.

We had dinner at L’Antica Milano. Which was near our hotel.

We ordered our first Ligurian wine, paired with a lovely pasta dish. After dinner, we sipped slowly on shots of espresso. The warmed mugs kept the shot warm for a longer amount of time. I was surprised by my first espresso in Italy – the espresso was so smooth and wasn’t bitter at all.

After dinner, wired on espresso, we walked to the Duomo. The Duomo is absolutely incredible to see in person. We enjoyed our first night in Italy with a lingering wine/espresso buzz.

We walk through the area and every street was lined with beautiful architecture. The architecture and buildings seemed to extend with every turn we took.

Our first full day in Milan

The jet lag from home caught up with us, and we slept until 4 PM. When I woke up, the curtains blocked out the light so well that I thought it was still night. It was the 24-hour clock that clarified that it was almost evening. We opened the windows and felt the hot August day become a perfect summer evening. After we got ready, we stopped at All’Antico Vinaio for sandwiches on schiacciata bread, which were delicious.

After, we walked to Humana Vintage. The vintage clothing selection at Humana Vintage was incredible. I bought a beautiful sweater and my first ever passport holder.

We ended the night in Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square) with a gelato in hand.

After Milan, we took the train through the Tuscan countryside to Florence, and eventually Rome.
